Charlie's Guitars

Interview by Sir Allen Issac:
Q: Now that the tape is running, tell me, why do you play the guitar?
A: I want to turn the songs loose. The man at the picnic showed me the songs. He had that Natonal guitar you gave me. That was when I was nine and I’ve been looking for songs ever since. Every guitar has songs in it and I have to find them and turn them loose. You have to fix the guitars up and tune them up first of course. Guitars are like the birds they all have their own songs. To get the best songs out of them they have to feel right.
Q: The man at the picnic, that was Vernon McAlister?
A: That was the man played the songs I showed you. He showed me how to find songs in a guitar. You said he was Vernon McAlister. I just remember the songs.
Q: Have you ever forgotten a song?
A: No. Every guitar has at least one special song in it and some of them have a lot. birdss can sing different; different times of the year,
